DREAM #1

LET YOUR MIND TRAVEL BY MAGNET
THOUGHTS BURN PLAYING THE BEATS
A SKALDABEAST SETS UP SHOP IN YOUR EARS
AS BONES DANCE UNDER BEDSHEETS
HER FALLING BOOKS SOUNDED LIKE GUILTY BOMBS
THOSE FLASHING RED LIGHTS IN PUDDLES ON WATERSTREET
DR. WHO, THE CORNER MAN, COOKS UP A MEAL FOR YOU
AS YOUR VEIN GOES TO RED AND DEEP BLUE

Falcon Buddies are working for the weekend!

All work and no play make Falcon Buddies dull boys. So off to a beach camping holiday we go!

We woke up Saturday morning exhausted from a weeks worth of playing shows so we lounged around and watched TV for a few hours to relax. But the television got boring and we became frustrated with doing nothing productive so we unloaded our equipment from the van and began working on new material. After working on some parts and structure, we realised it was time to get going. Off to Ventura we go!

After buying some groceries for the camp grilling, we arrived at the campsite in Ventura at about 7 p.m. Our good friend Todd got us the camp site and let us borrow a tent and ice chest. We pulled in, and after shotgunning a beer each, we began assembling the 10-person tent. After getting the tent together, our friend Kurt, who was recently mentioned in another blog, arrived and we started drinking some more. A few beers and burgers later, Todd arrived and the fun began. We met our neighbours from the adjacent campsite who told us they had over 100 beers in case we needed some more. We had more than enough. Then we went into the van, for something about a box and heat, and engaged in an impromptu jam session with a mandolin, banjo, harmonica, and autoharp. The rest of the night was a bit hazy.

The first thing we did this morning was go to the beach but the sky was overcast as it was the day before. We walked along the beach and went back to the campsite to load up and leave. Next we found ourselves walking around downtown Ventura where we stopped by a Mexican restaurant for some mega burritos and awesome smoothies. After this most satisfying meal, we walked around Ventura and found a car show!!! They had all sorts of 60s roadsters, 70s and 80s sports cars, and, sadly, no muscle cars. But it was really rad seeing all the old cars restored to top condition. After leaving the car show, we were on our way back home. But one of us noticed the sky had cleared and another had the brilliant idea of suggesting we go back to the beach for some swimming action. So, after recovering from a wrong turn on California's crappy highways, we were on the beach being tackled by huge waves. The sky became overcast again and the wind got really cool so we decided to head back home.

Here we are at Ian's parents' house. We swept and cleaned the van, broke down our equipment, and are now trying to finish the beers left over from camping. It has been a great weekend. Tomorrow we're off to Hollyweird again for our final show and then we depart back to the great Lone Star State.

Here's some pics!

Oh wait, we had so much fun, we forgot to take any.

Tales from Hollywood

Greetings friends, we have visited Hollywood and have not lost our minds. On Thursday afternoon, the Hollywood freeway chewed us up and spit us out into a land of street musicians, impersonators, and stars stolen from the sky and cemented into the sidewalks.

There were two parallel simultaneous journeys. Tizoc jumped on a bus that traveled straight into the heart of Hollywood Ave. and saw many interesting people. There was a man playing a mean bucket. He was playful, throwing and bouncing his sticks against buses and messing with the tourists. There was also a part-man, part-instrument preparing to be showered in tips.

While Tizoc watched the street performers put on their show, the rest of the buddies were in the van singin' the parking space blues. Eventually, a vintage guitar shop was found and all was well. Dieter found out a sequential keyboard he bought months ago for $5 was worth $650 at this guitar shop! Morris and Ian found a great supply of ancient and wise effects pedals and amplifiers, paid homage to the innovations in their first models, and basked in the timewarp.

Back on Hollywood Ave, surprises kept emerging. Tizoc spent some time in a Hollywood bookstore, thumbing through a fine book of film posters from the golden age of Italian cinema. He also met a man from Germany who told him to visit Venice Beach. The friendly German said Venice Beach "vas a crazy place, lots of people on drugs".

He left the crowds and stumbled in and out of a costume and wig shop and made his way down to Sunset Boulevard, where the rest of the buddies were still hangin'. Before he left the street though, he found... what?! could it really be?! Yes.

A few blocks later, and it was Amoeba records, one of the championing music stores in the country. Everyone got together and headed down to the venue together. Falcon Buddies arrived at The Derby to play their final show for the week. Adam Bianchi opened up once again, this time with Mike on skins. We finished our set, loaded up the van, made a late-night grocery store st, and drove to our friend Kurt's apartment for some Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!

We woke up Friday morning in Hollywood and got ready to see Dreamworks Studios, where our friend Kurt works on lighting (animation, not hot lamps) for their productions. He gave us a nice informal tour, complete with lunch. It was a wonderful glimpse into where he creates his art. He was filled with interesting thoughts.

We drove off to The Getty Museum and saw paintings, photographs, and exceptional landscapes. There was a garden full of opportunities, 17th century French decorative arts (furniture) galleries, and an exhibition of photography by August Sander. He was well aware of the hierarchy of the workforce in industrialized societies and docu mented all kinds of workers: lawyers, writers, actors, architects, policemen, to name a few. There were even photos of members of the National Socialist, Communist, and Nazi parties. One has to view these photos personally to grasp beyond what these words merely provide. The exact same can be said of the landscape on the grounds of the museum, though here are some photos.

There will be new routes paved on the Hollywood journey when we travel there again on Monday to play our final show on this tour. Tomorrow we will take a trip to the beach and camp out on the sand blankets with the light of the moon shining down on us. Magical nights await.

Beach. Show. Tavern.

Beaches, Shows, Taverns.

Greetings Cosmonauts and Earthlings,
( July 15th 2008 )
We decided to take the day and head to the Beach.
Armed with bread, mayo, chips, meat, fake meat and some fantastic Blood Orange and Pomegranate sodie pop bottles.
Curving through a hilly landscape and seeing the ocean in the distance, we arrived to a beach next to Malibu.
After a healthy band sandwich session, we took off our clothes ( leaving the necessary swimming attire on of course ) and headed off into the Deep Blue.
Waves, Salt Water and Sand were our existence for a mere hour and a half or so.
We crossed across some rocks and walked onto a hot photo set. Who would think that there would be this activity going on in California? (teehee)

After the Sun,Sand and Sandwich adventure, we trucked over to our destination in Canoga Park.
The Place we played at was a Music Store by day and a venue by night situation in a reddish room in the back.
We played after Ian's friend's band ( Adam Bianchi )
Really Good Songwriter! I suggest you guys check him out!
After the mellow tunage of Adam we took the stage.
The crowd was small, but the sound system sounded fantastically nice.
After the set we packed up and chit chatted with the members of Adam's band, a drunk bicyclist, and a friendly Italian who worked at the music store.
We also spotted a music book with sheet music of STEELY DAN!
We might have to get it today since it was in the half off bin. ( Schwing! )
After the mingling session we set off to some great bars/taverns/pubs/icons.

We parked the van and headed into the Scotland Yard Pub.
The place was a grand place with Scottish memorabilia and decoration.
We shared conversations over Blue Moon and the lovely Irish Tennet's ale.
The Juke Box had some great music ranging from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to Iggy Pop to Radiohead.
Also, to confirm the authenticity the Bartender was a rather large Scottish gentleman with a think accent.
We then headed to Casey's Tavern where Morris and Ian played a couple games of Pool.
You can ask them who won.
There were great Oldies playing and a very classic bar atmosphere. It was almost as if we were transported to the 70's again. The first time we lost our bell bottoms, but thats a different story. ( teehee 2 )
That then concluded our night.
That's a wrap!
End Scene!

More to Come....

Love,
Falcon Buddies

Yesterday we had some nice adventures in Echo Park. We began the day with a practice and we created some new tasty musical transitions for the set. We packed up and headed for Los Angeles (we got our first taste of the traffic)and got to the Echo Park area with enough time to explore a bit. Echo Park is very eclectic, with stores and cuisine from various parts of Latin America and Asia. We had a hard time ordering anything because none of the local businesses took credit cards. Victor and I (Ian) got a bite to eat in this Salvadorian dive and ended up getting a little sick. Echo Park is well worn, but it was also very beautiful. My great-grandfather Barsom Eskander had a home close to where we were. The streets were lined with interesting apartments, arabesque gates, tall Suess-like trees, various flowers and assorted trash left behind by local wanderers. We saw some random balloons hovering over head, Mauricio bought the best hot dog ever and the local buses made a really interesting whooshing sound as they passed by. Victor also found a credit card left at an ATM machine and made sure it got back to the owner.

We finally arrived at Echo Curio (which was in my opinion one of the coolest venues I have ever experienced) and unloaded the gear. It is a small art shop/music venue on Sunset Blvd. Two really nice socialist dudes run the place and have a wonderful philosophy. According to the Echo Curio Philosophy, every person has the desire should have a venue to show their work and they will present anything and everything in their store. Everything is egalitarian. They even pay all the musicians the same amount regardless of how many people an artist brings to the show. Marx would be proud! There was some amazing work on display. Silver Pines had played there on their recent tour and we saw one of their hand made tapes.

We had a great show! There were video projections on wall as we played. I felt like I was on a carousel. I'm sure the 16oz Dos XX helped the feeling along. We were really into the set and the people who came to see the show seemed to have a good time. We started the set with Bone Dance and ended with a new song that has yet to be named. Afterwards, we went to a bar and chillaxed with a few friends who came to the show. We drove home, almost ran out of gas, Mauricio missed the freeway entrance and we crashed out as soon as we got home.
